Read the general professional work overview
Hypothetical example: an Asphodel-Norwood land surveyor holds a bachelor's degree in geomatics engineering technology and an Ontario surveyor's licence, and has been hired by an American engineering firm. Appendix 2 names Land Surveyor, but the parchment does not use that word. The file has to connect the credential to the entry explicitly, because an officer reading a degree title alone may not make the connection.
Quote the entry and then answer it
Appendix 2 sets out for Land Surveyor a baccalaureate or licenciatura degree, or a state, provincial or federal licence. Note that this entry offers alternatives, which is the applicant's advantage here: the provincial licence satisfies the requirement independently of what the degree is called. Lead the file with the licence, in its current form and showing good standing, and place the degree behind it as supporting evidence. A one-page cover note naming the Appendix 2 entry and stating which limb of the qualification is relied on does more work than any amount of additional documentation.
Have the university explain the programme, not just certify the degree
Where the degree is being relied on, a title mismatch is bridged by content. Ask the university for an official programme description or a letter setting out the curriculum: surveying, geodesy, cadastral law, photogrammetry, remote sensing and the field components. Attach the transcript so course titles are visible. If the degree was earned outside Canada, Mexico or the United States, a reliable credential evaluation is required and it should address the equivalence directly. Do not rely on a reviewer inferring that geomatics and surveying describe the same discipline; state it and support it.
Make the employer describe surveying work
The offer letter should describe the actual professional duties: boundary retracement, control networks, construction layout, legal descriptions, topographic and as-built surveys, and the review of others' field data. It should name the employer, the location, the salary and the temporary period of employment. If the position also involves supervising crews and managing projects, keep the professional content clearly dominant in the description, because a role that reads as construction management rather than surveying raises a different question. Any licence the American state requires for the work is separate from the TN qualification and needs its own timeline.
