Hypothetical example: an Otonabee-South Monaghan grain and oilseed farm employs an agronomist daughter who has been offered a field position by a United States seed company, and the offer arrives while planting equipment is already being serviced for spring. Three calendars are colliding: a cropping season that will not wait, an employer that wants a start date, and a government process whose length nobody in the household controls. The useful first move is to write down which of those dates is genuinely immovable, which is a preference, and which depends on a decision that has not been made yet.
Six routes appear in these pages because six different kinds of proposal exist. TN covers prearranged professional work for a Canadian or Mexican citizen. L-1A and L-1B move an existing employee inside a company that already operates on both sides of the border. E-2 belongs to a treaty-national who commits capital to a real operating business and directs it. EB-5 is an immigrant investment route with a job-creation obligation. The Gold Card is a separate official framework built on a gift to the U.S. government rather than an investment. What a household wants is rarely what selects the route; the facts about citizenship, employer, ownership and money do that.
Choose what brings you here. Leave with a short list of things to discuss—not another long form to fill out.
Gather what an employer must supply before a start date means anything.

Rural households often have more moving parts than a salaried one: a crop in the ground, a herd that needs daily attention, machinery financed against next season, a spouse whose income is seasonal. Write each of these down as an obligation with a date attached, and mark whether it can be transferred, sold, hired out or simply ended. A commitment that can be handed to a custom operator for one season is a different constraint from a supply contract that runs three more years. The immigration questions then attach to a real timetable instead of a hope.

A practical plan.
No promises we can’t keep.
List every commitment with a date: cropping season, herd care, equipment finance, supply contracts, school terms.
Note beside each one whether it can be sold, hired out, assigned or ended, and how much notice that takes.
Citizenship, employer identity, duties, ownership percentages and the source of any money are facts, not preferences.
Resignations, sales and firm closing dates come after the permission question has an answer, not before.
A consultation is more useful before the household has promised anything to anyone. Bring the offer or the business proposal exactly as it stands, including the parts that are still verbal, and say plainly which facts you are unsure of. A review may find that the strongest available route needs a document nobody has requested yet, or that the arrangement described in an email is not the arrangement the law recognises. Both findings are cheaper to receive early than after a farm sale has closed.
Find your pathwayShneur Herman, Jo Kubti and Alexander Paton work with Otonabee-South Monaghan households remotely, so nothing here depends on travelling to an office. Send the written offer, the corporate ownership records or the sale agreement, plus a short note about who in the family needs to work, study or stay behind. Consultations are scheduled by arrangement and the scope of the review is confirmed in writing before it begins.

The farm calendar can shape when you apply, but it does not shorten any government step. Plan the application to finish before the season you need, not during it.
Owning and directing a Canadian farm from abroad is a Canadian and tax question, not a United States immigration permission. What matters here is which activities you would perform inside the United States.
No. Every requirement described on these pages is federal United States law and is identical everywhere in Canada. Only the practical facts of your household differ.
No. This is a remote consultation service. Documents are exchanged electronically and meetings are arranged by appointment.
