Payroll registers, employment agreements, personnel files and tax records showing one continuous year with the qualifying organisation within the three years before the petition.
Primary records, assembled before the argument
Hypothetical example: The requirement is specific about continuity, about the identity of the employing entity, and about the three-year window that ends at the petition. Each of those is answered by ordinary business records, so the work is retrieval rather than persuasion. Payroll registers show the employment months.
Employment agreements and personnel files show the role and any change to it. Tax records provide independent corroboration. Where a Cavan Monaghan candidate spent part of the period engaged through a personal corporation or on a contract basis, that arrangement should be documented and assessed rather than described as employment by default.
The same applies to unpaid leave or a secondment. Assembling the primary records first has a further benefit: it sometimes reveals that the qualifying year is complete on a later date than expected, which is far better learned before a filing date is chosen than after.
